Steel billets are transformed into seamless pipe through hot-rolling or cold-drawing, a process where the billet is forcibly molded over a mandrel. As it is being pushed onto the mandrel, the wall of the billet contracts and the shape of a hollow tube is formed. After this pressing step, the seamless pipe is cooled and changed to the exact desired dimensions.
An assortment of materials are employed to fashion seamless pipe, with the most frequently used being carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, and non-ferrous metals. The seamless pipe fabrication process starts with a steel billet being heated to exceptionally high temperatures until it is malleable enough to pass through a series of rollers and attain the required shape and size. Finally, the billet is allowed to cool so it can conform to the necessary measurements.
