Due to the lack of a weld-joint, seamless pipe is renowned for its reliability and sturdiness. A billet is drawn over a piercing rod to form the hollow shell, unlike welded pipe which requires different processes. As a result, seamless pipes have been highly sought after historically for their perceived ability to withstand pressure. Moreover, they have often been more easily accessible than welded pipes.

A variety of methods are used to create seamless pipes, with hot rolling being the most common. To create a hot-rolled seamless pipe, a round billet is first heated to 1050-1200C. After this, it is punctured to form a hollow shell and its walls are thinned via either drawing or rolling. The process wraps up with the tube being heat treated.

The entire process of hot-expanding begins with heating a circular mass of metal up to within the range of 1050 to 1200C. This is followed by perforating the billet, which creates an empty core. The wall of the billet will then be stretched out by pulling it lengthwise, thus achieving a greater circumference. Eventually, as a concluding step, the tube is subject to a further period of heat treatment.

A gentle warm-up begins the process of creating seamless pipe, with a round billet heating up to 1050-1200C. Once properly heated, the billet is then punctured to create a hollow shell. The next step is to draw the billet through a die in order to reduce its wall thickness. Finally, the tube undergoes its final heat treatment for completion.

Piping that has been seamlessly constructed is regularly employed in the oil and gas, chemical, medical, culinary, light manufacturing, machinery, instrumentation, and other industries for industrial flow systems and also as structural parts.
