How to choose Welded Steel Pipe

Steel pipes can come in two forms — welded or seamless. Welded pipes are manufactured from a single sheet of steel, slowly wound into a tube and then fused together at the seam. The two primary ways of manufacturing welded steel pipe are Electric Resistance Welding (ERW) and Double Submerged Arc Welding (DSAW).

A process of heating and shaping is used to craft ERW pipes. The sheet of steel experiences a high temperature before being passed through a set of rollers that form the tube. To complete construction, the seam is fused together with an electric current.

To craft a DSAW pipe, two sheets of metal are welded along a seam. The joint is sealed with the submerged arc welding process, which is known to be more dependable and reliable than ERW techniques.

When selecting a welded steel pipe, there are several points that should be taken into account. First and foremost, the size of the pipe in terms of diameter and length will be important for determining how well it performs its intended function. Secondly, the type of metal used in the construction of the piping should be given consideration; different metals possess different properties and will influence the cost and performance in various ways.
